Help identify this weed

Hello all,
This weed grows in my boyfriend's parents yard. They are having a very difficult time identifying it and preventing it from growing back.

It like to grow up in the middle of bushes/flowers they've planted, and it seems to happen mostly under/near a tree that spans between their yard and their neighbor's yard.
Does it look familiar to anyone? I've looked at a bunch of weed identification sites and haven't seen anything that looks like it.
