Im building a house on a cleared lot. The problem is that bamboo shoots have reappeared up through the cleared dirt. How do I get rid of it? Renee

Do you mean Japanese Knotweed? If so, it's very tough. There are discussions about it on various forums on Garden Web.

Nope, Thats not it. This has narrow pointed leaves. When I was a child we used to cut it to make a fishing pole.

There is a long running old thread about bamboo on the Virginia gardening forum, its kind of amusing if you enjoy other people's pain.

Thats pretty discouraging. At least the lot is other wise cleared except for a large white oak tree and some Lob Lolly Bays. Maybe we can try to control it before planting anything else.

I haven't tussled with it yet but I understand it's a tough one.
