out of controls weeds

Hi, I just moved into my house about 2 years ago. Or I should say this is my second summer of enjoying or trying to enjoy my flower gardens. The first year I spent ripping out wild iris and lily plants that owned the grounds. Now I have put in over 400 dollars worth of plants into about a 15 by 10 by 10 triangle area. My thoughts were - kill the plants by over doing the flowers. well - not working. I have been reading about doing the newspaper, cardboards, preen. I have preen - did I just not get it down this year in time? Before I spend hours - and it would take half a day to pluck the weeds - pleeeeeeease someone just tell me what to do!!!!! Thanks so much - I have all kinds of flowers out in there and they need help!

Relax....that's not a terribly big area, put aside a day (after a rain would be nice but not always possible) and hand pull the bigger weeds, use a hand tool for the smaller tougher ones, mulch, and then patrol the area everyday or every other day after that. It's a part of having a flower bed, but it can be overwhelming, that's for sure.

Pluck the existing weeds then mulch with newspaper, etc.
