Weeds/Grass woven into Chain Link Fence

| Greetings All...
HELP!
Any suggestions as to what to do about grass and weeds that manage to 'weave' themselves into the chain link fence so that a weed-whipper doesn't work? Will repeated sprayings of round-up or something like that get rid of this? I don't want to hurt the plants near the fence, I just end up with this 'mat' of grass and weeds that grow up and directly under the fence and get protection (from the weed-whacker) by growing within the links.
It's really messy/sloppy looking and I am sick of hand weeding these!

Grab the Roundup and let them have it! If still alive after 2 weeks, spray them again, perhaps using a double-strength dose. After death, they the plant material will dry up and you should be able to pull it off.

I've started using one of the formulations with diaquat in it which works faster. You can tell in 1 day whether respray is needed in most cases. George

THANKS! I'm going to try spraying just to get rid of the grass/weeds, and then after I remove the (hopefully) dead weeds, I'm going to somehow get a triple layer of weed fabric (I'm not normally a fan of weed fabric-hoping this works) under the fence itself and use landscape timbers (and fabic 'pins') to hold it down on both sides of the fence.

I gave up and planted Liriope along the fenceline, so far it has choked everything else out.
