Weed identification - help

I am trying to determine what this weed is that is growing in my garden. I planted several stargazer lily bulbs and at first thought this might be one, but it has grown at light speed compared to the lilies. I really need to get rid of it, but the first step is identification. Thanks for helping!

Looks like an Asclepias. Larval host plant for monarch butterfly, if that's what it is.

Milkweed...let it flower. It's beautiful and smells lovely. Dig it up after it flowers, before it makes seeds.

Larval host plant means that the caterpillars of monarch butterflies eat this plant (or any Asclepias.) These plants are usually considered a sacrifice, planted with the intention that they will be eaten by the caterpillars. If one does not want to host monarch butterfly caterpillars, this plant probably should not be in the garden. Removing the seed pods after blooming would ensure that no seeds are dropped from this perennial.
