need weed help

Posted by Doug_Ohio none (My Page) on

I've tried pulling this weed but it often breaks off b/c the ground is too dry right now. Will try again after next good rain, whenever that will be. Anyone know what it is? My pumpkin patch is coming in very healthy with lots of growing fruits but this weed is a bigger threat than I care for. Any help other than the obvious, pulling, would be appreciated.

Here is the same weed. It's the one in the middle surrounded by pumpkin plants with yellow flowers.

It looks like pigweed to me. As you say, it's hard to just pull up once it's established. PITA plant. It is, however, an annual, so if you can at least rip off the top so it doesn't go to seed, you'll be ok for next year. Check out the pictures at the link and see what you think.
