I always assumed bird seed was inert

Maybe certain brands/varieties of bird seed are truly inert, but not the big bag I got from Costco. My entire garden bed is almost 100% weed free, except for this one patch that happens to be directly under the bird feeder.

Coincidence? I think not.

The only bird seed that has been treated so it will not sprout is niger sometimes called thistle seed. As far as weeds or sprouted bird seed you do not have many plants only about 5-10 minutes at the most to pull.
