ID and help eliminating inc. stump

This weed (or maybe tree) has been growing in my mother in laws back yard for several years. Two years ago I sawed it down as low as I could. It actually has roots under the cement and the weed grows up at a 45 angle. It just grew right back.

Any recommendations to kill it. Like I said the roots are way under the cement. I cannot dig it out. I thought about cutting it down again and drilling into the top of the stalk/stump and pouring salt or nitrogen or round up brush killer. Would any of these methods work?

Looks like Tree of Heaven.
There's many sites on how to kill.
Quite invasive .
I'm forever cutting the little sprouts.

Thank you very much for your post. Got me right on track. Hopefully I can eliminate it and stop having to chop off the sprouts.

It's pretty, I would have guessed Sumac, the tree version.

About the only thing that will kill it is an herbicide that can get to the roots.

You could TRY re-cutting the top of the stump and painting the glyphosate concentrate around the fresh wood IMMEDIATELY. Dab liberal quantities on with a sponge.

Instead of cutting off the sprouts, spray them thoroughly with glyphosate and remove them after a couple of days. You use them to get the herbicide to the roots.

It may respond with a fresh burst of sprouts ... keep pulling them off as you see them and it will stop. Don't let them get big enough to be producing energy for the roots.

They are possible to kill. These were sending up sprouts all over my yard, but "frilling" the trunks and applying glyphosate last year killed them by this spring, when they were cut down. For a while, they sent up far more sprouts from roots a dozen yards away, but we pulled them consistently and it quit.
