You don't give many details. Is it possible the hose end sprayer was plugged? Is your water pressure adequate to suction the herbicide out evenly? Is the hose-end sprayer one that you use for other things or did it come prefilled with weedbgone?

In any case, something is not working properly if you sprayed as long as you did and you did not empty the sprayer.

To calibrate for 1000 square feet you can mark off a 20 x 50 area. Fill the sprayer with water to a known mark on the bottle. Spray the area evenly. See how much water you used to spray the 1000 sq. ft. area.
