pecan sprouts-my weeds

Weeds are not my problem-but pecan sprouts are. We moved into this home three years ago. I have never had 7 pecan trees, and therefore a zillion squirrels planting pecans constantly.

What is the easiest way to get the pecan sprouts out of my flower beds. I used to dig, then I decided to use a BIG knife and cut the sprout under the soil. But I think they just continue to grow from the cut even stronger. Your advice would be appreciated. taterbug

Like many other tree seedlings if you cut off the newly emerging leaves the developing roots will simply die. If it appears that this sapling does grow new leaves it is most likely there is more than one nut (seed) buried there.
Without the leaves to manufacture nutrients to feed the roots they cannot live.

Wow, well...OK. It sure does seem like they are all coming back up. Are you saying I can simply cut the "stem" off?
