Creeping Charlie - a newcomer to our lawn and beds

We believe the creeping charlie started in our neighbors yard. It creeped under our fence and attacked our pachysandra ground cover. It's starting to trail toward our hydrangeas and hostas.

I started reading about erradicating this invasive weed, and it seems like once you have it, you can't get rid of it.

Our neighbor is ok with us spraying whatever and wherever we want on his side (he rents the home and never uses the back yard)

We started to pull it by hand yesterday (on our side) - since it all but devoured a large section of our pachysandra. Did we pull it too early? I read that the best time to deal with it is late fall.

That being said - since our neighbor is allowing us to be aggressive in his yard, should we use borax? Or should we use trimec?

Either way - when should we apply? Should we pull out first or just spray away?
