Is this a weed and what is it called (post 1 of 4)?

Hi, completely new to gardening (first post on a gardening forum!). We've just moved into a new house with a yard and so I'm trying my hand at gardening. There are some plants in the garden that I suspect are weeds but I'm just not sure. Posting pics to see if anyone can help me ID these plants and tell me if they're weeds. Any help appreciated!

That might be a "weed" depending on whether it is a plant you want (Arum italicum) growing where you want it growing or not. Any plant you do not want growing where you do not want it growing is a "weed". Even the ubiquitous dandelion can be a desirable plant in the right place.

The fleshy roots go very deep. So if you don't want it, start digging now.
Repeat every time it shows aboveground.
