Couch Grass as Mulch

Once the "wire" is out of the ground, what do you do with it?

I either bake it in the sun on the brick garden paths until dry and brittle, then roughly crush it before adding it to the beds as mulch., or to make use of it as a combined mulch/fertilizer, I drown it in a bucket of water for 3/4 weeks, along with any other weeds, then pour the mush, water and all back onto the beds.

I couldn't!!! The only way that stuff returns to my garden is through the woodburner. (But I'm glad there are alternatives...)

The only way I know of to make the rhizome (wire) of couch (quack) grass able to be used as a mulch is to burn it, illegal here. The grass blades can be used and do make an excellent mulch but the rhizome is one of the very few yard waste items that should be removed from your premises, or at least disposed of somewhere that would keep that grass contained.
