ID follow up - more info....

Hi,
This summer I posted here trying to ID several plants or weeds in a garden. It was great, I found a couple of good plants and a couple of weeds. One of the plants ID'ed was said to be a goldenrod - more specifically, Solidago. I've attached a photo below - now that is is in full bloom I imagine that some of you could confirm the Solidago.
My question is - I don't remember it ever being planted and - is goldenrod an evasive plant? If I continue to let it survive, will it spread? I'm not sure I like it - while pretty this time of year it is too tall for the garden. If you suggest I keep it, can it be cut down or trimmed back in summer to keep it under control?
