Weed Guess: Low Dense Mat

Pop Quiz: What springs to mind if I say I have a creeping mat / lawn weed that is incredibly dense and hugs the ground very tightly. It is in bright sun, poor sandy soil. Large (1.5"?) leaves that tend to have a reddish hue. It does dig up pretty easily but it grows so dense that it basically kills everything in its path.

Im going to get some pictures, just fishing for a guess. Maybe I can find a picture online but I am not seeing anything yet.

It may be Bugleweed? It does look like this. If so this stuff is a plague... they *sell* this stuff as groundcover? laugh.
