name this jimsonweed like plant

I have had this plant for three years. It grows to about 5 feet and flowers from August til frost. It blooms during the day ,and it is not jimsonweed. It has s short trumpet that is light purple and white. It produces a beautiful seedpod that has a round 1/3 inch seed inside a many sided globe that you can see through. It is NOT prickly.I cannot find it in the wildflower or perennial books ,but think it must be in the tomato family.

I found a picture of it that someone submitted under the perennials forum asking what is this, a weed or perennial. No one really knew what it was.I have never seen this plant before and it only grows one specimen per year, in different locations. This year it was HUGE.

Anybody have any ideas?
