Lawn Weed

Hi Guys,

I live in Central Coastal Queensland and I have this reoccurring weed appearing in my backyard grass that I can't get rid of.

1. It fans out up to 50-60cm in diameter when left unhindered with broad green foliage and clustered purple flowers.

2. It lays flat to the ground. Fans out from a single, central root.

3. Thrives in direct sunlight and lots of water. Grows anywhere in lawn grass.

4. It's root is odd. It can get up to an index finger in thickness. Single, starchy root that can get up 20-30cm long. Very weak and brittle (pulling the weed always easily snaps the root clean like snapping a carrot, but not nearly as strong as a carrot). Doesn't always dive directly down but can divert off, zig-zagging in any direction (which I think spreads the weed).

5. I'm not sure if this helps but bees love it's purple flowers.

Does anyone know what this is? I've gone over all the weed identifiers that I can find and I can't seem to find it. And more importantly, how do I kill it for good!
