After living here 45 years, this plant (weed) began showing up in my So Cal garden about 5 years ago. It looks a bit like (edible) Pickleweed but the branches are not segmented in a highly defined way. It grows in both sun and shade and will grow out of cracks in pavers and from clay soil. Max. height is 7 inches.
