Does this squirrel need a rehabber??

| Every morning I shoo away a young squirrel who is relentless feeding. WHen I inspected him more closely today, I noticed he is missing his right paw and a tail. He is not afraid of me at all, and when I felt bad and threw him some peanuts, he did not even flinch.
His stub seems healed but I feel bad for him because other squirrels bully him. Also, what are the chances that he could be rabid. I am trying to keep my distance.

| Not likely to be rabid but if you make him a pet will be more likely to be killed by someone who dislikes squirrels. If the squirrel is male he may have been castrated by older squirrels. A rehab place would probably put him down but if he is healthy he could live a long while in your area. Some lists state squirrels live on an average of 1 1/2 to 2 years. Everyone probably has one in their nieborhood that they swear is 20+. |
