I recently noticed my plants in my pond were being eaten very quickly and then yesteday noticed the attached frog in my pond. I'm trying to decide if it is a bull frog or a green frog.

They generally don't eat plants. If you are in KC go to the Missouri Conservation Discovery Center just south of 47th and Troost on the west side of street. The used to have a booklet of how to identify frogs. If you have children the center has classes in all kinds of things. Don't forget to go to the gardens behind the building.

maifleur,

Are you referring to frogs in general or specifically green frogs don't eat plants? I know this guy in my pond is loving my lilies cause my fish have never eaten my lilies in previous years.

Thanks for the reminder about the discovery center. I've been there a couple of times for Water Garden society meetings, but this gives me an excuse to go back! :-D

That is a bullfrog. Green frogs generally have two distinct ridges going down their back starting from behind their eyes. Bullfrogs have a ridge which just wraps around the ear area. Other than that, they look pretty much the same, except bullfrogs will grow much larger.

Frogs (all types) DO NOT EAT PLANTS! They are NOT eating your lillies! I don't know what type of fish you have, but when large enough, they may eat your lillies - particularly if they are Koi.
