warning salmonella outbreak

Please see dirtgrls post (sick goldfinch in the house) and mine (saga of the puffed up birds)in the bird watching forum. There has been an outbreak of Salmonella affecting the finch family. It is deadly, incurable, and highly contageous. Clean all of your feeders with a bleach solution, clean under your feeders and your bird baths too. This is spread thorugh bird fecies and can be passed on to humans and domestic pets.

Is this why I've seen so few finches this winter?

it's not bird flu is it?

don't mean to panic you but most of the world is losing birds by the thousands if not millions

After reading this post, I brought in all of my bird feeders and ran them through the dishwasher on extra high heat with bleach three times.

BTW, I didn't have anything else in the dishwasher except the bird feeders.

I sure hope that we don't see any problems down here.
