Frozen Bird Seed - in feeder

Here in Western PA - we have had a very cold, wet winter and I am finding that my bird feeder port holes get frozen. The birds will give up on it and go to the ground to find seed.
I do go out every couple of days and shake it loose and pick out the frozen stuff.
Any suggestions on how to keep those ports from freezing or how to keep the feed flowing when it's bitter cold out? The feed in the feeder isn't frozen only the ports.
Is a particular feeder better for winter? I also want to keep it from getting to wet and avoid mold growth.
Thanks

Maybe you cold devise a roof type thing to cover the feeder. Some do come with this type thing but they usually aren't wide enough to do any good.
