The 'Bug Vacuum'

HI all,

I'm upset by something I saw in the most recent "Bed, Bath and Beyond" flier. It advertises a toy for kids called the "Bug Vaccum". It shows a kid at a tree, vacuuming up bugs. You can't see any bugs, but they've drawn in ants on the page, so you get the idea. Besides being a total waste of plastic, it irritates me that they've created a "toy" for kids to just indescriminately kill bugs. I think I'll write to them.

Actually, this is a concept that has been around for a while - originally marketed as a way for squeamish folks to catch and release bugs without killing them! I guess it's all in the marketing. Frankly, most kids do in enough bugs without any encouragement...

I didn't realize it wouldn't kill them. At least that's good news!

Yeah, Cathy...and you know you and I wouldn't need one...we just go around grabbing wasps with our bare hands!

actually , most of the time nothing beats a good old mason jar with a piece of paper slid carefully underneath if you have something that needs catching. Guess the gadget people are always hard at work thinking of things for us to need to buy.
