Spring means baby animals

Just a reminder; if you find baby animals, leave them alone if at all possible. They aren't abandoned-the mother stays away most of the time to avoid attracting predators. Baby birds on the ground are usually fledglings learning to fly. You can put those up on a low branch. Mother birds will still feed them- they can't smell you! Birds don't have a sense of smell like mammals do. Most baby animals grow fast and will leave on their own shortly. If you find bunnies, just don't mow that area for a week or so. Fawns will relocate every day or two to avoid predators. Racoons and such can scratch and bite! Most "adopted" baby animals die shortly anyway because of special dietary needs not being met; cow milk doesn't cut it for wild animals! Enjoy the moment of watching the babies, and let them be! Mom will be back after dark to take care of them.
