Just a thought for those of you that are planning plantings around wildlife. We are supposed to have temperatures around 16F in the morning. Many of the spring blooming plants are either in full bloom or just finished blooming. The freeze which is supposed to be wide spread may kill or damage alot of the feed sources for the various types of wild life. You may want to plant annual plants just to provide food for some of the animals. Annual grasses or flowers that have seed but will not live over in your area along with your normal plants.

You also will need to start thinking of protecting you plants by wire cages this fall. Deer and other animals will eat anything if hungry enough.

RE: wildlife food

Most spring plants, particularly natives are equipped to deal with spring freezes like this. I don't believe this ~5 day freeze will have much impact on any of my plants. Never the less, we are feeding the squirrels and birds and likely a fair number of rodents who get droppings. For the pregnant/nursing squirrels we've put out extra peanuts in the shell.
