I never knew about how and where to put up a bird house/nest box untill I moved to a place that had a blue bird box. Luckily it was mounted properly. Please PLEASE never mount a bird house on a tree or a fence post or anywhere a racoon, cat, squirrel etc. can jump to or climb to it. If you plan on offering housing for the birds you must be responsible for offering them safe housing, and that is on a slick pole with a preditor baffel. If you are using bird houses for decoration please block off the hole. It is sad to hear the stories of bird nests in bird houses being attacked. Most people just dont know that they are offering a death trap. I hope this saves some of you from a sad experiance.
