Worried that finch's eggs won't hatch!!

Hi everyone,

I think I have a house finch nest in my wall planter box. I'm very excited and can't wait to see the chicks, but I'm worried that they won't hatch. The nest is located in an area where it gets much traffic, and every time I open the door, the mama flies off, and doesn't come back for quite some time. I think she comes back at night, because in the morning, I scare her off again when I open my door.

Another problem is, if it's a house finch like I think it is (eggs are tiny, and spotted towards the big end, and the nest is cup shaped), I'm not sure if the bird I'm scaring off is the mom because this bird looks like the male (red colored). Do males sometimes incubate the nest, because I'm not seeing the plain "female".

Please help, I don't want them to die!!
