We've had our share of duck visitors this year, which is pretty unusual for our area. 99/100 are your regular mallards, including two that have adopted our front yard for the last week during the day.

Today, I went outside and saw this black duck with dark brown mixed in, a black beak and white breast. From what I could tell, the legs and feet were black/dark as well.

Our neighbor across the street is retired and goes fishing often, but he had never seen one either. He thought it was enough of a sight that he called his wife out to see if she knew what it was. Here's the picture. She(?) is in front of a male mallard.

Beautiful bird. I wish she or he had stayed around awhile longer.
