This bluebird house is on a pole at the entrance to our dock on the pond/lake. Although other bluebird houses we've put out are always occupied, this one has been ignored for the first three years it was in place. This year, some of the bluebirds discovered it. Here they are feeding their babies. Becky |

| Becky, Congratulations. Bluebirds are a lot of fun to watch and they'll eat all the bugs. Lisa is right. The wooden post will allow predators (racoons and snakes) to climb it and kill the parents and/or the young. Most people don't think they have either until they find out the hard way. As soon as the babies are born, the smell and noise will attract predators. You can move it to a metal pole with a baffle without upsetting the process. Once they are bonded to the box (with a nest and eggs) they will stick with it even if you move it. Check out that website for more information. |
