I need a C.S.I

Yesterday I found this carcass in my side garden. Looks to me it is a Wood Pegeon, probably a young one, judging by the size of the wings and (what was left) feathers everywhere. Wood Pegeons are BIG :-O !!!

The "crime" happen around 1 pm and the "victim" was attacked between my bikes at my front door and then dragged to under the pine tree and devoured. The bones were clean and no signal of internal organs, head, other bones, and one of the feet was "missing".

I'm so curious now to find out what animal diid this. I'm new in Denmark so still learning about wildlife around here, but I'm living VERY close to a fenced forest.

I just want to be sure it wasn't a CAT killing in my property!!!! Wildlife is fine, but some neighbors cat will made me very upset !!!

Denmark? Cats, wild cats (do you have them?) or foxes.

Any of them are fast enough to pounce on a bird.

Might also be a hawk.

Hi, LZ.

No, no wild cats. There are 1 or 2 neighbors cats.
We do have foxes in the forest, but is all fenced and it CAN NOT be possible that they will come around here, in my garden, and at mid day!!!! OMG!!!! I have 2 small dogs!!! :-O
Could a hawk eat my dog??? OMG!!!OMG!!!
No raccoons either.
Could a cat eat an entire Wood Pigeon??
It happen at mid day!!!

From living in the country and seeing a fair number of dead animals I would say one animal, probably hawk or owl, killed it and others have eaten on the body. Hawks and owls will remove the head and open the chest cavity to eat the more nutritious parts. Since the area at the stomach is missing is a clue that . Many predator's enjoy different parts better than others. Most flying killers will leave more feathers if they have long enough to eat the whole body. Also if it was just a bird the leg would not be broken in that clean manner. Which leads to the thought of another diner.

Probably some C.S.I. on animal kills on the net but I have not found it.

I thought that parts of Denmark still had wild forest cats. Seems like I read an article that they were disappearing. The picture with the article was of a brown tiger striped cat, in England called a mogy, which is supposed to be genetically close to the wild cats of Europe.
