Sad (but interesting?) finding re. my V. trilobums vs. V. beetle

I am appalled to see the dreaded Viburnum beetle already taking a serious toll this year on the leaf sets of our bedroom window screen, 10+ ft tall, nursery-bought trilobum...

What really puzzles me is that our >otherNow what I am getting at is, is it something usual that a nursery-grown native plant is finickier and more prone to disease or insect attack than a wild plant? Or should I look for other reasons, such as the specific soil conditions? Both plants are just 15 ft apart in our garden, but the tall, nursery one has been, now for five summers in a row, in a location where there is quite a bit of rotting roots from a mature spruce tree that used to be there...
