Ok so maybe its a bit more than a foot long.

I'm guessing it is a wild lizard. I have seen ones similiar to that around, but not in my yard I only have anoles and skinks.

You have a couple of lizards in your area that could match the picture (it's hard to see, they do move fast!). It looks like either a texas spiney lizard or a fence lizard. A nice sized one too :)

I agree with Kristy, one of the spiny or fence lizards of the genus Sceloporus. If it was a bit smaller I might have said a Tree Lizard, Urosaurus ornatus, which also occurs in your area...

It's native. Texas Spiney Lizard(Sceloporus olivaceus)...It's arboreal.Found on fences. Beautiful. Not very common & private.Always spotted(Green Anoles) AMerican Chameleon in Corpus, McAllen , Brownsville.I just loved them. They must eat many bugs.

If you can toss meal worms within sight of the lizard, and continue to do so on a regular daily basis, before long it could be taking worms directly from your hand. Don't try to make a pet of it, but you can enjoy a simbiotic relationship. You have a pretty big fellow (or gal) there.
I have one in my yard that is about 11 inches long. Yours appears somewhat larger. Spike, my spiney, has been around for about 3 years since we first "met".

I was going to say it looks like a Fence Lizard. We have a version of them here in California but boy, that one is a BIG one!

I've had one of those in my yard since last year. I lived in Texas 16 years before I'd seen one.
