Neat experience with a baby bird

Hi all,

I was sitting here using the computer, and looked out my window at my stocktanks, which hold my lotus. I saw something moving alot........couldn't be a frog......looked more like a bird's mouth moving. I got my binocs, and sure enough, it was a little baby bird! I ran outside (minus my princess warrior dog, Suzi), and found a tiny baby bird sitting on a lotus pad! He was chirping, chirping, chirping. It would have made the perfect picture, but I was afraid to leave it, to run and get my camera, for fear it might drown, if it fell off the lotus leaf. I took it in my hand and it seemed to be comforted. I walked around my fenced-in yard, trying to figure out where the heck to put it where it would be safe.
I couldn't see it's parents anywhere. I thought it was a song sparrow baby, but I wasn't sure. After about 5 minutes, all of a sudden I saw 2 chipping sparrows going crazy around me, and knew they were the parents. I took it outside the fence and put it in a tree, and it flew to the ground. I left it there. I think it will be safe for awhile. It's parents were talking constantly to it, and it was talking back! Hopefully, they'll convince it to fly to a tree.
I couldn't believe how small it was......but chipping sparrows are pretty small too.
Anyhow.......it was a neat experience!

Excellent lesson on what to do with a fledgling bird! The parents are always there, if you are patient enough to wait and find them.

Nice!

Birds are excellent parents. I am sure they are thankful that you got the baby out of the dangerous situation and on safer turf. I am sure they would have called the baby into the air if they could have, but probably would not have been able to save it from drowning. You done good!

Thanks Elly and Lisa,
It was especially gratifying for me to help an animal.....after my dog had recently killed one.
Those little babies of any kind, are so sweet!
