RE: Unidentified insect

Hi Patrick,
What zone are you in?
I looked up your pic in a couple insect books I have, and the couple that sort of look like your pictures are: ten-lined june beetle (found from Kansas and New Mexico to California, north to British Columbia), and Ten-lined Giant Chafer (found in western U.S.). The adults feed on needles of pine.
I don't know much about bugs, so it might be something other than these 2. Your pics really looked like the ten-lined june beetle to me.

Patrick,
I never realized this before, but there is an insect forum here. You might want to post your question there too.
