I read that It is a larval food source for the mottled Dusky-wing, and Spring Azure Butterfly and is a nice addition to the butterfly garden.

I found one site that says New Jersey Tea is food (both larval and adult) for 13 species, but it didn't list which ones. Another site mentioned Spring Azure and Skippers specifically.

Thanks! After I posted my message, I found my butterfly gardening booklet from NYBG, which is quoted above. I do see a lot of spring azures in May each year (always clustered around my red osier dogwoods), so perhaps this is a second generation. As I said, I don't see any caterpillars, but I'll keep a lookout for more adults.
