Clearing land question

Hi all,

Hope you can help me: I had read somewhere that to avoid hurting any nesting creatures, there was a certain period to clear land, but can't remember if it's before April. I think between April and August is the time there might be young or nesting critters. Can anyone help me with this? I have some very wild property that I must clear and plow for fall, but am very tender-hearted toward anything with fur or feathers. . . Thanks!

Rose, you are right about the majority of criters, but there are always critters nesting somewhere. Hope you have the time and the ability to check the property carefully before you have to begin. How sad you have to clear the land, but good you care about what may be living/nesting there.

Thanks. I'm only clearing about 1/2 acre that I want to plant, but leaving a majority of wild space, including a couple of acres of pine woods. There are oaks, black walnuts, tulip poplars, cedars and hemlocks near the creek area, which will stay wild as well. You can be sure I will check out the area before clearing. It will drive the guy on the tractor nuts! :) Rosemary
