Introducing myself to the Wildlife Forum

Hello Everyone---I have been a cottage-gardener for years and have always planted lots of flowers and roses. My husband and I have a large piece of land in Southern California. The property is divided into two sections- a lower section that is about 1/2 acre and a upper section where the house and garage is. Around the house is the cottage garden and along its fences...the bottom half of property is grass and various native trees as well as some fruit trees. We do not live in a gated community with a neighborhood assoc.

We would like to start on the 1/2 acre (where grass is currently)... a wildlife garden. My DH and I are sick to death of the upkeep of the grass and would enjoy promoting wildlife. Our neighbors have said they are fine with the idea. Any suggestions from any of you would be highly appreciated. I have enjoyed lurking here for a long time. I also have four young sons who love all forms of wildlife.

Gigi
