Crap - Winterberries wilting

I planted two very healthy Sparkleberries and one Southern Gentlemen in April. All are in full shade, moist soil. (although somewhat compacted) I haven't been religious about daily watering, but only because it's been a really cool spring/summer so far, and quite a few afternoon thunderstorms.

As of a few days ago, they have all started to wilt. The lower, inner leaves are brown. I don't want to lose these. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I did some research and see that they are very tolerant of a wide variety of ph. I'm not sure what it causing this. I planted a wide variety of other natives that are all doing well.

Water them more? In my experience, you cannot water new transplants too much. Especially now that summer is heating up...
