Who eats wild strawberries?

| I have a fair amount of wild strawberries growing in my back yard. I decided to just let it spread as a groundcover. It grows very low, has yellow flowers and tiny (1/4") red berries. The berries don't taste like much.
Anyhow, I'm noticing that the berries all get neatly nibbled away, leaving the stems completely untouched. I'm wondering who is such a neat eater -- birds, squirrels, mice? Anyone have an educated guess? |

| All of the above. When were trying to grow strawberries, we covered them with cheesecloth in order to keep the birds at bay. But chipmunks will have a field day on them and they would get under the cheesecloth. |

| I'm actually glad to see the berries eaten by critters. That's one reason why I let them spread. I was hoping the birds were getting them, but I suppose there's no way to know. |

| me:) I've read you can make nice jam from them, but the critters need them more than we do! |
