Brush Pile Questions

Hi all. Kelly and I are still working on our backyard habitat. We have a couple questions for those who know more about it. The most plausible place for us to put a brush pile is on this concrete slab at the back of our yard(there used to be a shed there, but before we acquired the property is was damaged in a storm.) Is it possible to put a brush pile on concrete-perhaps we could lay straw or some other such material on the ground?

Also, we have a lot of old scrap wood that we would like to use as the base if it is possible, as we don't have access to many large logs. Do both of these ideas seem crazy, and not worth our while? Should we make alternate plans?

I will appreciate any help you can offer! Thanks again!
