Are you certain it's not a fern? Some of our native ferns stay green year round.

Try looking at a picture of a grape fern (sorry, but I don't know the scientific name) in a fern book and see if it looks right. It's a bit fleshier leaf than most ferns.

I was just swooning through a Plant Delights catalog and I came across an Uvularia sessililiflolia (maybe too many l's there), which is a Massachusetts selection of an East Coast native. Maybe this is what you found?
