The Winter Garden

my red twigdog woods are turning 3 but don't seem to have "red" in them this year,last year they were a bright red. Is it still too early for the change. Lots of snow around them. Since Xmas we've had a total of 15 inches. Had enough,anyone wants some.

Redtwig dogwood stems show most color on new growth. I think it's generally recommended to cut the stems to the ground in late winter or early spring to encourage new growth. I cut down 1/3 of the oldest (grey-est, brown-est) growth each year usually in April.
