What can I plant....?

Posted by taniagr (My Page) on

Hello all, I would love to plant something that will blossom flowers in the winter. I was planning on putting something outside on my patio (I live in an apt.) in one of those elongated pots that can be placed on the window sill for herbs and such. Any suggestions of what I could plant? I keep reading about shrubs that bloom but I didn't want anything that would get out of hand as to where I had to plant it in the ground.

Hey Tan, how about various Jasmine? I know there are some hardy to your area during winter months. You'll have some flowers and fragrance to boot...Toni

For a pot, I would suggest pansies. You can supplement them with autumn-flowering crocus, such as Kotschyanus, Kotschyanus 'Albus', Cartwrightianus, Sativus, Speciosus(with wh middle & orange stamen) and Sternbergia 'Lutea' (not a true crocus), which you can get from K. Van Bourgondien & Sons , and Colchicums.
