heating grass in winter

I want to use grass and pavers for our front yard walkways. We live in zone 4 and have snow most of the winter. Has anyone ever used heating coils under sod to combat snow and ice? The obvious problems for that kind of walkway is maintence and safety.

First off, I think it would cost prohibitive to try to heat sod and stones. Second, you'd have a muddy mess most of the time. I think I'd figure out a different solution. But if you get it to work, please post pictures. :) Good Luck!

As a kid our driveway had hot water coils under the pavement, the grass within a foot of the edge stayed green all year, but if you happened to venture off the pavement it was a muddy mess. BTW it was in Indiana.

I live in zone 4MN, I too agree with Diann that it would probably be cost prohibitive to do, especially if temps are below 30 for very long. I will be watching for your results if you do this. Good Luck!
