Witch hazel 'Diane' question

| I keep reading that something green should be planted behind witch hazel to make it stand out. I just planted 2 "Dianes". I really don't want to put anything behind them. Is their color strong enough to stand out on its own? If they bloom in February it seems the snow would be enough of a contrast. Also, how long do they bloom? |

| have been away from forums for a month or more. I have my 'Diane' planted with a holly right in back, but expect the Winter sun to catch it at the end of the day and make it glow. The color is intense and the flowers are usually abundant so I think you will be more than pleased. Mine has been in the holly shade for 3 years and so is slow, but has some flowers budded and bloomed a little last year. I expect it to reach beyond the holly shade in time. Posted pictures from last March on my bogturtle's garden blog from my visit to Longwood Gardens. 'Diane' was magnificent with snow on the ground. |
