winter/fall veges?

I'm in CA, zone 8ish.
I still have tomatoes coming at me, have a couple of indeterminate mater plants started in the greenhouse to try for this winter. Also in the GH are some peppers and eggplant (an experiment)
In the raised beds I have brussel sprouts almost ready to start harvesting, chard, broccoli started, snow peas planted, a late planting of green beans (I think I was too late on these), garlic and I have to plant new lettuces cause the ones I planted in the shade got too big for their planters and wilted.
I'm not quite sure when to plant potatoes.
Can I do carrots and beets still?
We are just starting to get rain. Our low daytime temps are in the 40s, highs mid 60*s, highs are still getting into the 80s. Not for long though.
I'll be expanding my beds this year by 2 4x8 beds! Need to rest the old bed maybe a year and add in some good organic junk, then go full steam ahead with the 2 4x8s and an 8x8!
I want to do an asparagus bed. Any other suggestions?

I'm in zone 8 in alabama. I always plant irish potatoes in mid Jan. I also have asparagus beds but this is planted in early spring here. Since you seem to grow lettuce successfully, tell me, will it grow until it freezes or will it survive? This is my first time with lettuce. I planted (transplants) it last weekend. |

| Hate to say it but Zone 8 is over this side of the USA. S.C. Always know your zone to avoid heartache when ordering plants. |
