Arborvitae planting in the winter

plasmo

As many already know, the cold came much earlier this year than expected and we already have snow in the Chicago area.

I recently got a dozen Emerald Arborvitae in pots, intending to get them in the ground before this early winter came, but the cold weather has already kicked in and it is currently in the teens outside.

Can someone give advice on my options here? Can they still be planted in the ground with this cold temperature? I think we might have a brief warmup to 40 next week but it won't stay that way for long.
Can they be kept in their pots until winter passes?
Thanks
