Winter Flowers??? (Bachelor's Buttons)

Hi all! I'm not really here because I don't really consider myself a winter gardener. Yesterday, while walking my dog, I noticed that the bachelor's buttons around the mailbox had reseeded, which is par for the course for them. Only thing is is that they're sprouting now!

I've learned to never underestimate them and their warm bed snuggled between the curb and the sidewalk with an extra chunk of concrete anchoring the mailbox in the middle. They powered through the April Freeze and our 13 Days Below Freezing. Now I'm entertaining the idea that, in that bed in particular, I could have flowers in January!

I was wondering, after such a long explanation, if some of you have had flowers in winter. I know in zones 8-10 that's kinda easy, but what about zones 7 and above?

RE: Winter Flowers??? (Bachelor's Buttons)

Pineapple Sage (Salvia elegans) is in full fire red. They do that every year about this time and I forget every year that they are usually the only flowers still blooming in December.

I have "Pink Icicle" Camellias blooming a full couple months ahead of normal. Unfortunately my "Golden Eagle" Exbury Azaleas are also blooming, though sparsely, and they shouldn't be open until February here near Raleigh - Z7. That means no flowers when they are supposed to, heralding nearly the end of Winter.

Thanks for sharing your winter joy. I have some Bachelor Button seeds that I will pin to my calendar for March planting.
