Still to come, as Winter wears on, are the witch-hazels and winterhazels, which bloom, here, from later Winter into Spring. Please let me know, if you visit it. My counter keeps going up, slowly, but no one ever comments.

Like the previous poster, I too have focused on bringing winter interest into my garden - PNW winters tend to be long, wet and gray and anything that adds color or interest during these dismal months is very much appreciated :-) And we have over-wintering hummingbirds in my area (Anna's) and winter flowering plants attract them in droves so I plant as much for their benefit as I do my own.

Do a search under your hardiness zone for "winter interest plants".......you should turn up various listings of appropriate material. I've attached one link to get you started. Additionally, I'd suggest visiting the NC Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill and the NC Arboretum - both have plantings that feature plants grown for their winter flowering or bark/berry appeal.

I'd also add that there are all sorts of evergreen plants that offer interest in the winter months, most often through foliage color/variegation or textures, including assorted conifers (dwarf varieties fit into ANY landscape), broadleaf evergreen shrubs and various evergreen perennials and groundcovers.
