Favorite Madison/Sun Prairie Area Nurseries

Okay, we had a posting about the Green Bay area nurseries so I thought we could have fun posting about our favorite nurseries in the Madison/Sun Prairie area.

I've only lived in DeForest for 18 months but here are the ones I've discovered thus far...

Favorite place for Hostas - Flower Factory in Stoughton. They have more than 400 varieties. They have several greenhouses and great perennials but I only get as far as the hosta house ;O). It's a bit of a trip for me, however, so I think I'd only do it once a summer. Also, with the $$ I spent, I can only AFFORD to go once a year. With gas prices what they are, a day trip w/other gardeners perhaps? If I lived close by, I'd be in BIG trouble! LOL

Orchids by the Acres in Waunakee - closer...nice selection of hostas and other perennials.

Jung's in Sun Prairie - very close for me. Plan to visit the original store in Randolph late spring for the first time.

America's Best in Cottage Grove - nice selection of everything - much bigger than Orchids by the Acres or Jungs.

char...you have to be careful how many friends you take with you...

the more friends....the "Less" space for plants to bring home....LOL...

I get mine from The Salad Garden btwn Mt. Horeb and Blanchardville has fantastic perennials, annuals and veggies. Good prices and a great variety of perennials especially. I think they sell at the Farmer's Market on the Square in Madison too.

Two that I really like are Country Bloomers (3 miles north of 19 on Portage Rd.), and Schonheit Gardens on Bailey Rd., south of Sun Prairie.

The Flower Factory is nirvana for me and I can't move my little red wagon fast enough! Also like the Bruce Company on the west side.

The Flower Factory is my favorite road trip. Their species hostas look great right around Father's Day -- it's inspirational to see how large hosta beds are laid out. And the staff is helpful and knowledgable.

I also like K&A Greenhouse; they're located about three miles west of West Towne out Mineral Point Road, and have a good variety of plants. Love their hanging baskets. After July 4, the prices start to get even more attractive. I've usually find some late season bargains there.
